Position Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mid to Senior Software Engineer to join our Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) team. This position will be responsible for providing software subject matter expertise to program leadership for a variety of air combat electronics systems. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter who can provide technical guidance and recommendations on software architecture, development, and integration efforts related to mission-critical systems in defense environments.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide software engineering expertise for air combat electronics systems, including system architecture, design, and integration
- Advise program leadership on software development strategies, risks, and solutions
- Collaborate with Integrated Product Teams, including systems engineers, test engineers, logisticians, and program managers to ensure software requirements are understood and met
- Review and analyze Interface Control Documents (ICD), Interface Design Documents (IDD), and Software Version Descriptions (SVD).
- Support development, testing, and deployment of software for both embedded systems and broader system architectures
- Conduct periodic reviews, identify technical debt, and recommend improvements in software development processes
- Stay current with evolving software technologies and advise leadership on potential impacts and opportunities for program improvement
- Willingness to learn new technologies associated with platforms, systems, and operational environments
Requirements
- Minimum 7 years relevant experience
- Familiarity with the Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) Process
- Understanding of modern software development practices such as CI/CD, DevSecOps, and automated testing
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math-related field
- Active Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies
- Familiarity with Agile methodology
